Coaches Introduction

Welcome to United Sports Flag Football League - Coaches Introduction

Become a Coach

At the United Sports Flag Football League, we believe in the transformative power of sports in young lives. We are currently seeking positive and enthusiastic volunteers to coach in our Flag Football program. Coaching is a rewarding experience that allows you to impart life lessons and football skills to youth aged 4-14. Whether you're looking to coach your own child or just want to make a difference in the community, we provide all the resources and support you need to be successful.

Coaching Philosophy

Our philosophy centers on providing a fun, safe, and inclusive environment where every child gets to play and learn the game. We emphasize sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation over winning, ensuring each player not only develops their football skills but also learns valuable life lessons.

Coaches Code of Conduct

We adhere to a strict Coaches Code of Conduct, focusing on positive coaching and rejecting a win-at-all-cost mentality. Highlights include:

  • Prioritizing the well-being of players over personal desire to win.
  • Respecting each player’s individuality and capabilities.
  • Providing a safe playing environment and leading by example in sportsmanship.
  • Respecting the decisions of referees and fellow coaches.
  • Ensuring the sport remains enjoyable and beneficial for children, not adults.
  • Understanding and teaching the rules of the sport.

Failure to uphold these standards may result in a ban from participation in league activities

Join us in shaping the future of youth sports in a positive and impactful way. We look forward to welcoming you to our team of dedicated coaches!

🧑‍🏫 Why Coaching Matters

Being a volunteer coach is one of the most rewarding roles you can take on. You’re not only teaching kids the fundamentals of football—you’re also building confidence, teaching teamwork, and creating moments they’ll remember for years to come, especially if you're coaching your own child.

No prior coaching experience is required. We’ll give you all the resources, tools, and guidance you need to succeed.

🤝 Meet & Greet – Week 1

The first week is a Meet & Greet where you’ll:

  • Provide a basic assessment and understanding of the game to every player

  • Run a light practice

  • Begin building chemistry and excitement

  • Set expectations for the season

This is a relaxed but important session to set the tone for the season ahead. Below is a sample practice to run. If you need assistance, please contact our staff.

  • Sample Practice:

  • Warm‑Up (5–10 min): Light jogging, dynamic stretches, and quick footwork drills to get players loose.

  • Fundamentals (10–15 min): Practice key skills like flag pulling, passing, catching, and handoffs.

  • Position Drills (10–15 min): Split players into groups (QB, receivers, defense) to work on specific techniques.

  • Team Plays (15–20 min): Walk through offensive and defensive plays at half speed, then run at full speed.

  • Situational Practice (10 min): Practice game scenarios—kickoffs, downs, clock management.

  • Scrimmage (15–20 min): Run a controlled mini‑game to apply what was learned.

  • Wrap‑Up (5 min): Quick team talk, highlight positives, review next week’s goals, and finish with a fun drill or cheer.
