Youth Flag Football Combine Winter 2025
Dear Parents and Coaches,
Thank you for participating in our Youth Flag Football Combine! We appreciate your support in helping our athletes improve their skills and get a better understanding of their performance. Below, we’ve provided an overview of the combine, the stations, and how we assessed the players’ skills.
Combine Overview:
The Youth Flag Football Combine was designed to evaluate the players’ skill levels in various areas critical to the game. The combine included four distinct stations that allowed us to measure different attributes:
40-Yard Dash (Speed & Agility)
- Players ran the 40-yard dash, and we recorded their fastest times.
- This test measures each player's speed and acceleration.
Throwing Distance (Arm Strength)
- Players threw the football as far as they could, and we measured the longest throw across three attempts.
- This test assesses the strength and distance of a player's throws.
Route Running + Catching (Technique & Hands)
- Players were evaluated on their ability to run routes and catch passes.
- Points were awarded for running sharp, precise routes and successfully catching the ball.
- This test checks a player’s receiving ability and route-running skills.
Throwing Accuracy (Accuracy & Precision)
- Players had five attempts to throw the ball at a target, with points awarded for successful throws into the designated area.
- This measures the player’s accuracy in passing.
Data Collected:
We captured data for each player in the following areas:
- 40-Yard Dash Times: We measured the time it took for each player to run the 40 yards and recorded their best time.
- Throwing Distance: The longest throw recorded across three attempts.
- Route Running + Catching: Points scored based on route execution and successful catches.
- Throwing Accuracy: Points based on the number of successful throws out of five attempts.
Player Ratings:
Each player was rated in the following categories, with a score from 1 to 5, where 1 means a beginner level and 5 represents elite performance per their division.
- 40-Yard Dash Rating: Based on the player’s time.
- Throwing Distance Rating: Based on the longest throw.
- Route Running + Catching Rating: Based on the route running and catching performance.
- Throwing Accuracy Rating: Based on the number of successful throws.
The ratings for each category were then used to calculate a Total Score for each player. This total score is the sum of the individual category scores, with a maximum possible score of 20 (5 points per category).
Total Score Rating:
After calculating the total score for each player, we assigned an overall rating based on the total score:
- 5 (Elite): Total score = 16
- 4 (Advanced): Total score = 13-15
- 3 (Intermediate): Total score = 10-12
- 2 (Beginner): Total score = 6-9
- 1 (Newbie): Total score = 0-5
This final rating reflects the player’s overall performance in the combine.
Example:
For example, if a player scores 5 points in the 40-Yard Dash, 4 points in Throwing Distance, 3 points in Route Running + Catching, and 2 points in Throwing Accuracy, their total score would be 14. Based on the rating system, they would receive an Advanced rating (4 out of 5).
Next Steps:
We hope these ratings help you understand your player’s current skill level and areas where they can improve. As always, we encourage players to keep working on their skills, whether it’s improving speed, strength, technique, or accuracy. These ratings will provide a benchmark for future combines, helping players track their progress over time.
If you have any questions or would like further clarification on the combine results or ratings, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are excited to continue developing these young athletes and supporting their growth in the game!
Thank you again for your involvement, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the field!
Disclaimer:
Please note that these ratings and the exercises conducted are not intended to be a direct reflection of how your child will perform throughout the program.
The purpose of the combine and the ratings is to help us better understand each player's current skills, so we can balance out the teams in a fair and enjoyable way.
Every player has unique strengths, and we believe in creating an environment where all participants can grow, develop, and have fun. A lower score simply means that your child is still working on certain skills, and we will support them every step of the way. This process is just a tool for us to help foster team balance and ensure that all players can enjoy a positive experience.
We encourage all participants to focus on improving and having fun, as this is just the beginning of their journey in sports. We are committed to helping every child develop and succeed, no matter their starting point.
